70-78

70-78 is Kathryn's idea of a really large number. As in, "Whoa, if you ate 70-78 of those, your tummy would hurt!" The following picture is just plain cute and has nothing to do with 70-78, but I wanted to post it. It's Kathryn on the potty at the zoo.

 

Goggles

Here are the girls practicing with their new goggles. Kathryn asked for them so that she could go under water. I'm hoping that she gets to use them lots on our vacation. Sydney, of course, couldn't be left out. She is more comfortable with her face in the water than Kathryn is.

 

 

Our New Swingset

We got a formerly loved swingset this past weekend. We got it from a friend of Mike's from work whose kids have outgrown it. He was kind enough to drive it to our house from his house in Illinois. Kathryn and Mike went to Home Depot on Monday night and bought new swings for it and we put it together that night. I bought the baby swing a long time ago at a garage sale for $4 and haven't gotten to use it until now. Both of the girls like to swing in it.

 

 

 

Kathryn taught Sydney how to swing like this tonight and Sydney couldn't stop laughing. It was so fun to listen to.

 

Kathryn was wearing a skirt when we went out there and she was having a hard time sliding down the slide because she was sticking, so she went in the house by herself, went up to her room, and got a pair of jeans. She was proud of herself and I was too!

Sisters

Here are our sweet girls. Despite how they may treat each other sometimes, they do love each other. When I got them up from their nap today, Kathryn was having a hard time waking up, so Sydney laid (layed?) down beside her and was rubbing her back. Then, when Kathryn woke up, Sydney laid on top of her and Kathryn just kept hugging her. It was very sweet.

 

 

Tuesday

This morning we came down to find our camera sitting in a puddle of water! Yikes! So Mike took this picture of Kathryn to make sure the camera still worked. Thank goodness it did.

 

Mike has school on Tuesday nights so he usually gets home after the girls go to bed. But tonight I took them with me to church (we had Enrichment) and we got home about the same time as Daddy. Kathryn asked me if she could do her new puzzle with him so they did it together before bed, with a little help from Sydney.

 

 

Baking Cookies

On Sunday we made cookies for a fireside, for the people I visit teach and for our vacation. I quadrupled the recipe and the girls helped me. (With mixing, not with the math!) They were very excited to do so and were chomping at the bit while I was getting the kitchen cleared out. I love the look on Sydney's face.

Kathryn Running

We went to Shaw Park after the zoo and had a picnic lunch. I took these as we were leaving. I told her to run to me and she ran in slow motion with big arm swings. It was cute.

 

 

 

 

Goin' to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

Today I took the girls to the zoo while Mike had class. His school (Washington University) is right next to Forest Park (where the zoo is) so we carpooled down there together. These are glittery visors that I bought the girls. (Bummer that you can't see the glitter!) They look a little silly, but the girls like them and they serve a purpose. (If they keep them on!)

 

I was really proud of Kathryn for brushing the goats. Sydney was very wary of them. Kathryn did get scared when a goat jumped up on the bench that we were sitting on!

 

Kathryn dressed up like a veterinarian.

 

 

Bird update...

Here are the birds today. So much bigger! But not much cuter yet.

 

Young Women

My current calling in church is Beehive (12-13 y.o. girls) Advisor in the Young Women's program. Last night I taught the girls how to make kites and we decorated and flew them. There wasn't a lot of wind, but we all managed to get them up at least for a little bit.

Library Reading Program

This was the prize that Kathryn chose (I kind of helped or we would have brought home an ugly bug or bubbles) for reading her first 20 books. Sydney hasn't gotten there yet because she can only sit still for a very short time. Once they get to 40 books read, they get more prizes!

Last Day of Gymnastics

Today was our last day of Gymnastics. Sadly, this is the only picture I took of Sydney because I do the class with her. I love having that time to play with her one on one. Her favorite part is when we run around the room.

 

Kathryn gets to participate in her class all by herself. So I had plenty of time to take pictures. During the class, she learned how to to a bridge (backbend) all by herself. (Gum was her main motivation.)

Artsy Fartsy

Yesterday we painted. Kathryn asked to paint, so I got the paint out for her and when Sydney woke up from her nap, she wasn't going to be left out! So, I tried to set her up with paints and a paint brush, but she went wild flinging the brush around, so we demoted her to finger painting. She really had fun and enjoyed the feel of the paint on her fingers. She likes all things yellow ("yay-o") right now.

 

 

Happy Father's Day!

Here is Mike's Father's Day gift from the girls. Although they had little to do with them, besides lending me their cute little faces.

 

We gave Mike an electric griddle for Father's Day and a new pancake spatula.

 

For breakfast I made him cinnamon rolls, and for dinner I'm making him chicken enchiladas, mexican rice, and corn mush (or tomalita (I think that's what it's called)). We had a good day at church! Mike got candy in Sacrament Meeting from the Young Women. Then Kathryn have him Hershey kisses from her Sunday School class, and Sydney gave him a cookie. Wow! What a lucky dad!

Strikin' a Pose

I told Sydney to stand there and let me take her picture and as soon as I put the camera up to my face, her head fell right over like she couldn't hold it up anymore! I guess that has become her pose. I shouldn't be surprised though. I have been known to do the head tilt before. In fact, I've been working since I was 10 (when I realized my problem) to not tilt my head in picture. When we developed the pictures from my sisters wedding in 1989, my head was tilted in EVERY SINGLE PICTURE! Well, at least now we know it's genetic!
